Volunteers Needed - CFBLA & OCBA Partnership with OCPS & Junior Achievement

Volunteers needed to bring Credit Abuse Resistance Education to Students

The Credit Abuse Resistance Education (CARE) Sub-Committee of CFBLA has been working this summer to establish a partnership with Orange County Public Schools to bring financial literacy education to students in our community – we have succeeded and now we need volunteers to present to the students.  Many of you are already familiar with CARE and the power point presentations used in the past by members of CFBLA and OCBA to educate students on good financial practices, including the responsible use of credit cards, the potential consequences of poor money management, the basics of student loan debt and other fundamentals of financial literacy; we have updated the power point presentation on credit abuse and prepared a presentation on student loans which has been reviewed and approved by OCPS for our use in classrooms this fall and spring in Economics classes for high school seniors.

OCPS, through JA Academy & Finance Park Virtual Junior Achievement of Central Florida, Inc., will be presenting a training session for CFBLA and OCBA members on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at noon in the 341 meeting room on the first floor of the George C. Young Courthouse building.

If you are interested in serving as a volunteer presenter at one of our local high schools or if you want to learn more about this program contact Kathy Appel at Kathy.M.Appel@usdoj.gov, prior to the training.  As a volunteer you need to attend this training so that you know what information must be covered with the students and so that you complete forms required by Orange County schools for volunteers.

Volunteer presenters will be needed for Orange County Schools to fill three hour slots on the following days:

            Monday, September 8th

            Friday, September 19th

            Monday, September 29th, and

            Monday, October 6th

The CARE Sub-committee members hope you will each take this opportunity to serve the Central Florida community by sharing with students your unique knowledge and experiences as bankruptcy professionals to provide consumer education to our young people.  We are very excited about this new relationship and partnership with OCPS & Junior Achievement and, they are eager to bring us on board.

If you have any questions , please contact Miriam Suarez (407-648-6301, ext. 126) or Timothy Laffredi (407-648-6301, ext. 130).
